“Green Energy Roofs Project” has already been a project Taiwan Citizen actively involved in. To help spread of renewable energy, Mayor Huang Wei-che advised Tainan City Government Secretariat to install a new solar power system in Yonghua Civic Centre Parking Lot (near Nandao Road) and on the balcony of Yonghua Civic Center on 11th, 13th and 15th floor. Upon completion, the capacity of the system is 612KW and can produce up to 680,000 kWh a year. The system can increase Tainan City Government's annual income by 290 thousand TWD. The project is expected to be completed by mid-April.
According to Tainan City Government Secretariat, starting from 2016 solar power systems were built in the corridors on the 2nd floor of Yonghua Administration Building by Yonghua Civic Centre(Capacity 180kw, annual capacity up to 240,000kWh ). It generates almost $200 thousand a year for Tainan City Government. As mentioned by Tainan City Government Secretariat after Mayor Huang took office, he requested departments to re-evaluate possible places for installation of more solar panels. After a detailed evaluation, Tainan City Government Secretariat plans to install more solar panels on the balconies of Yonghua Civic Center on 11th, 13th and 15th floor and in Nandao Road Parking Lot.
Tainan City Government Secretariat points out that the constructor of the new photovoltaic system is California Energy Group ; in addition to generating energy, the system can also lower the room temperature and thus reduce the electricity expense from the floors installed with the system. The new panels in Nandao Road Parking Lot can protect the road surface of the parking lot. This extends the life span of the road surface. At the same time it protects cars from direct sunburn. This facility also allows a wholesale of electricity, which increases income for the city government.
As stated by Tainan City Government Secretariat, the construction of the east side of Nandao Road Parking lot will begin from 7 March 2020 (Saturday) and will be completed on 15 April 2020 (Wednesday). Construction is expected to be finished in 40 days. The parking lot will be affected during the construction period; as such, Tainan City Government Secretariat sets up a temporary parking lot with 100 parking spaces on the west side square which is next to Administration Building, with opening hours from 0730-1830.
Green Energy Industry is a global trend, and it is also Mayor Huang's important policy objective. Tainan City Government Secretariat will continue to carry out the roles of promoter and administrator of this policy, actively evaluating the potential capacity of solar power system installation on government buildings and facilities, and monitoring the solar power production of those facilities already installed with solar power system. Mayor Huang emphasizes that Tainan City Government will spare no effort pushing renewable energy. Mayor Huang also requests different offices to push for solar power and sees the result as performance appraisal for all office heads. Tainan City Government actively promotes solar power and increases the growth of the renewable energy industry.
