A gift from nature. Installation of City Government car park solar power system is now completed. The system can increase City Government's income by NT$290,000 per year

To carry out Mayor Huang Wei-che's “green energy rooftop, green energy revenue” solar power city policy, Tainan City Government Secretariat installed new solar power panels in Yonghua Civic Centre Car Park, the balcony of Yonghua Civic Center on 11th, 13th and 15th floor and 7th floor circular rooftop. The solar power panels’ installation has been completed recently. The capacity of the system is 612KWP, and it is estimated that it can produce up to 650,000kWh of electricity a year. The system can increase Tainan City Government's annual revenue by NT$290,000. It is the best demonstration of the new revenue policy of the city government.

Mayor Huang Wei-che said Tainan has the best geographical location for solar power. There are 2,181 hours of sunshine throughout a year. There are 270 solar power related companies. Tainan is thus the best city to promote solar power in Taiwan. Therefore after Mayor Huang took office, he requested all departments to re-evaluate government premises in search for the installation of more solar panels. Mayor Huang emphasizes Tainan City Government is committed to promote the development of renewable energy, not only by establishing Green Energy Industry Promotion Centre (GEIPC) to help organize the whole green energy industry, he also personally requested different offices to promote solar power and sees the result as the Mayor's performance appraisal for each office and unit. All of these efforts are to make prosper the City’s green energy industry and to make Tainan the hub of green energy technology not just in Taiwan but around the world.

According to Tainan City Government Secretariat, starting from 2016 solar power systems were installed in the corridors on the 2nd floor of Yonghua Administration Building. Its total capacity is 180kwp, with annual capacity up to 240,000kWh. It generates more than NT$190,000 a year for Tainan City Government. To implement the policy to promote the use of renewable energy announced by Mayor Huang, the City Government had scheduled to install new solar power panels on the balcony of 11th, 13th and 15th floor and 7th floor circular rooftop and Nandao Road Parking Lot. Tainan City Government Secretariat actively seeks the best solar power contractor for the project. Upon completion, the capacity of the system is 612KWP and can produce up to 650,000kWh of electricity a year. The installation has been completed recently, and starting from May the system can raise Tainan City Government's revenue by NT$290,000 annually, which is a prominent benefit to the City Government.

According to Tainan City Government Secretariat, other than Yonghua Administration Center, solar panels that have been installed at Minjhih Civic Center have also contributed an installed capacity of 76.56 KWP, which generates 90,000 kWh a year with annual revenue of ten-thousand TWD. As part of the Tainan Government’s on-going efforts to promote green energy, the government will install solar panels on the rooftop of Nan Ying Building and Nan Ying Auditorium, upon completion, the capacity of the system is 135.96KWP and can produce up to 170,000kWh of electricity a year and estimates that it can generate NT$80,000 revenue annually. The projects will be completed by the end of this year. Tainan City Government Secretariat emphasized that upon completion of the two solar power systems in Yonghua and Minjhih Civic Centers, the capacity of the systems is 1004.52KWP and can produce up to 1,150,000kWh of electricity a year. An average Taiwan household uses 292kWh of electricity per month, and so the two solar power systems can supply electricity to approximately 328 households in Tainan and they generate NT$580,000 revenue annually, which is truly a gift from nature.

Tainan City Government Secretariat indicates that installing solar panels on the balcony of 11th, 13th and 15th floor and 7th floor circular rooftop of Yonghua Civic Centre can provide shade and keep the building cool and lower air conditioning costs. The solar panel shaded parking spaces at Yonghua Car Park is a rare structure in the city, and it also can shade sunlight and rain to keep cars cool and protect them from weathering due to sunburn. The design of the parking lot solar panels is simple, sharp and with a futuristic feel, it received a lot of good comments from the public and officers working in the city government.
